Mysticetus Awarded Contract by Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to Develop Centralized Protected Species Database

May 1, 2022

Mysticetus, LLC, a leading provider of innovative software solutions for the marine industry, today announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to develop and implement a centralized database for protected species observations.

The database will serve as a comprehensive repository for visual observation data collected during a wide range of offshore activities, including geological and geophysical surveys, renewable energy development, and oil and gas exploration. By standardizing data collection and reporting, the project aims to improve data accuracy, streamline reporting processes, and enhance BOEM's ability to assess and mitigate potential impacts on marine life.

"We are thrilled to partner with BOEM on this important initiative," said Dave Steckler, CEO of Mysticetus. "This project aligns perfectly with our mission to provide cutting-edge technology solutions that support responsible ocean stewardship. Our team is eager to leverage our expertise in data management, software development, and marine operations to create a valuable resource for BOEM and the offshore industry."

The database will be accessible through a user-friendly web portal, allowing BOEM, industry stakeholders, and other authorized users to easily submit, query, and analyze protected species observation data. The platform will also feature interactive mapping capabilities, enabling users to visualize species distribution and identify potential areas of concern.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
